Known as the capital of Alentejo, Évora is definitely worth a visit, not only because it is the only Portuguese city that is a member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network, but also because of the historic atmosphere that the city exudes. Its perfectly preserved historic centre is one of the richest in Portugal in terms of monuments, which is why it received the title of “City-Museum”.
Here you can visit the famous Roman Temple – the Temple of Diana – the Chapel of Bones and the Praça do Giraldo. In addition to this monumental triad, there is an 18th century cathedral with amazing panoramic views, an aqueduct cast in the city, airy squares surrounding old fountains, and dreamy palaces.
Extending to the region surrounding the urban perimeter, there is also a rich history that goes back more than five millennia, as demonstrated by local megalithic monuments such as the Dolmen of Zambujeiro or the Almendres Cromlech, which you can certainly visit upon request.
