From the sea to the mountains, along with the beautiful estuary, the city of Aveiro is a vibrant destination full of colour, where you’ll certainly experience different emotions and sensations. We suggest that you start the visit with a boat trip – on a moliceiro – through the channels that surround the city, which give it the title of “Portuguese Venice”. Continue your trip with a visit to the salt pans, a sweet ovos moles (soft eggs) tasting or a visit to an oyster farm. The region offers countless different activities!
But first, know that Aveiro is a Portuguese city located in the central coast region of Portugal, and is currently an important urban, port, railway, university and tourist centre. With some river islands along the Ria de Aveiro (estuary) and a coastal peninsula approximately 25 kilometres long, Aveiro has extremely interesting natural, cultural, gastronomic and religious resources. Here you can find diversity in the landscapes, monuments, aromas, people and traditions.
A city with roots in the sea, it also built a very rich heritage on land, boasting one of the largest ceramic factories in the country, now transformed into cultural spaces. The rails of the famous 19th century railway station also pass through these lands, whose façade is decorated with tiles that illustrate the city, as well as its cathedral, next to the Aveiro Museum, which is housed in the former Convent of Jesus.
On this tour you can also visit Costa Nova, an area known not only for its privileged location between the sea and the estuary, but especially famous for its colourful striped houses.
