Description of the tour

Fátima is the largest pilgrimage destination in Portugal, and Coimbra, the old medieval capital, also has one of the oldest universities in the West! The fusion of these two cities on the same tour makes it one of the most emblematic ever. Both cities feature elegant architecture and historical sites of high interest, representing an important part of national culture.

Fátima, with its impressive Basilica, is considered sacred. Famous for being the site of the historic apparitions of the Virgin Mary, it has become an important space for religious pilgrimage and a centre of Christian faith worldwide. On this visit you can discover the Sanctuary of Fátima, as well as its set of buildings – the Chapel of the Apparitions, the imposing Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and the most recent Basilica of The Holy Trinity – that celebrate the location, in order to understand the history on which its international reputation is based.

As for Coimbra, we can guarantee that the city is charming. Having been inhabited by the Romans and the Arabs, the first capital of the kingdom of Portugal still maintains its historic districts, as well as one of the oldest universities in the country. Considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this thriving academic centre – with its renowned 13th-century campus – allows you to stroll through narrow streets and ancient stone walls. When visiting the city, be sure to see the grandiose Cathedral of Coimbra, the Monastery of Santa Cruz, where the tombs of the first two kings of Portugal are located, or have lunch in one of the city’s modern restaurants, set in a green and contemporary park, on the banks of the Mondego River.
